Odenis
Trait guidelines
An Odenis design must comply with the species standards (see Odenis overview), and can only feature acceptable traits.
A list of all current acceptable traits is provided below. Each trait has a number of variables (= customizable parameters) and exists in different variants (= customizations).
This list may be updated in the future if new traits get discovered.
Traits and rarity
An Odenis design is characterized by a combination of “traits”, which are features that may vary from individual to individual and make each one of them unique.
Each trait has different customization possibilities called "variables" that come in different variants. Note that not every imaginable variable and variant is written on this page, simply because there would be too many!
e.g. the "ear" trait has variables such as "ear length", "ear shape", "ear texture". Each variable exists in different variants, for example "ear texture" can have "scales" or "fur" variants.Trait types
There are 2 main types of traits:
Core traits that every Odenis has (e.g. aspect, colors, ears, mane…).
Optional traits, that some individuals have and others don’t. Optional traits can be characterized by their occurence:
Regular traits are traits any Odenis can have (e.g. face spikes, horns, wing claws…).
Special traits are unusual traits (e.g. secondary aspect, asymmetry, palette switch).
Abnormal traits are exceptional traits that break the species standards (e.g. twin affinities, undead).
Design rarity
In addition to its core traits, an Odenis design may have a limited number of optional traits. The amount and nature of these traits affect a design’s rarity:
"Normal": 0 to 3 regular traits
"Uncommon": 4 to 6 regular traits
"Rare": 0 to 6 regular traits + 1 or 2 special traits
"Extraordinary": 0 to 6 regular traits + 1 or 2 abnormal traits (+/- special traits)
A design’s rarity may influence its value.
Alt form
Some designs have an alternative form, or "alt" form, that they can switch to and from under some circumstances. The change only affects the colors (palette and/or patterns) of the design, while the other traits remain the same.
A given Odenis individual can have at most 1 alt form.
Remember that to have an official alt form, and Odenis must have an Alternative card in addition to its official design card.
In the following list, the traits that unlock an alt form carry the (ALT) mention.
Customizable trait files
If you wish to create an Odenis design (Custom or Model), feel free to download the following trait files to help you choose and communicate which traits you want your character to have, by simply circling the features you're interested in!
Do not share/alter/redistribute these files outside of the context of official Odenis design creation without Amayensis' permission.
"Core traits" file
"Optional traits" file
How to use the customizable trait files
An example of correctly completed trait files can be found further below.
1 - CORE TRAITS
This file shows almost every customizable trait, except the aspect and colors. Make sure to specify those in the text body of your commission order!
Each box represents one or more trait variables (= customizable parameters). If you are unsure what counts as a trait variable, check out the detailed list further down this page.
e.g. for the "ear" trait, 3 variables are shown: "ear direction", "ear shape" and "ear texture". Note that the "tail fur type" box includes both the "tail base fur" and "tail tip fur" traits, and that the forelimb and hind limb traits, although in the same boxes, are independent from one another. For a given trait variable, several variants are offered.
e.g. for the "ear texture" variable, 3 variants are shown: "scales", "fur", and "thick fur". In the "Leg fur" box, there are 6 variants for the forelimb and 5 variants for the hind limb.Note that these files are actually simplified sheets, as it would be nearly impossible to create a sheet with every imaginable variable and variant for every trait. This means you may add an additional layer of customization over the variants you choose!
e.g. the "ear length" trait variable exists, but isn't shown on the sheet.Instructions (Core traits file):
Download the file and open it in an application that allows you to draw over it (Paint, Notes...).
Pick and circle 1 (and only 1) variant for EACH trait variable (some boxes include several trait variables).
If you're unsure, you may circle nothing, or several variants for the same variable, and add a question mark "?" so we can discuss it during the design creation.
Feel free to redline over your chosen variants or annotate to request additional customizations.
- For example, sketch a longer or shorter ear over the ear shape you picked to communicate the desired ear size. Note that NOT every customization is possible (such as giant ears above a certain size), but feel free to ask!
2 - OPTIONAL TRAITS
This file only shows the optional traits of the "regular" type, that any Odenis can have. If you want to give "special" or "abnormal" traits to your Odenis, type them in your commission order.
Each box is an optional trait, and features a number of variant examples you may choose from. Like the Core traits, keep in mind that not every possible variable and variant is shown on a sheet, so you may request additional customizations depending on the trait.
Instructions (Optional traits file):
Download the file and open it in an application that allows you to draw over it (Paint, Notes...).
Decide on the rarity of the design you're looking for, and keep note of the maximum number of optional regular traits it can unlock.
Pick and circle each variant you want for your design, within the maximum number of traits decided earlier.
For stackable traits, you may circle several variants of the same trait or the same variant several times and put them on different locations; however for each iteration, it counts as an additional optional trait.
- For example: if you want the "barbels" trait on the nose AND under the chin, it will count as 2 optional traits.
- Clarification for rows of spikes (or groups of whiskers): 1 continuous row of spikes or scutes counts as 1 optional trait. Also, a set of 3 wing claws counts as 1 optional trait.
If you're unsure, add a question mark "?" next to the traits you may hesitate between.
Feel free to redline over your chosen variants or annotate to request additional customizations.
- For example, draw an arrow over a specific location for a desired trait (e.g. tusks), or request a series of spikes with more or fewer spikes than shown on the sheet (e.g. 3 tail tip spikes instead of 5). Note that NOT every customization is possible, but feel free to ask!
Once you have finished completing the Core and Optional trait sheets and are ready commissioning your official Odenis design, make sure to attach them to your commission order form!
Below is an example of correctly completed Trait files (using the design of Odenis 002 - Celestial Guardian), though typed text would be preferred over handwriting. Feel free to take inspiration from it for your own design creation!
Here are some details on each trait and its variables. Keep in mind thatwhen creating an Odenis, you do not need to specify a variant for each and every variable that is listed here; only specify what is relevant for the design!
Core traits
Aspect
Every Odenis has a connection to an affinity and more specifically to an aspect of this affinity. Most Odenis only have 1 aspect, unless specific "special" or "abnormal" traits are chosen.
There are elemental affinities and esoteric affinities. Each affinity (e.g. "blaze") can be divided in aspects (e.g. "flame", "lava", and "ash").
Currently, there are 12 affinities for a total of 28 aspects.
Pick an aspect for your design from the list below (for example, "sand"):
Elemental affinities
(blaze) flame, lava, ash
(water) river, steam
(frost) snow, ice
(earth) ore, sand, oil
(lightning) spark, thunder
(sky) wind, cloud
Esoteric affinities
(light) sun, holy
(dark) moon, dream
(life) wild, venom
(death) blood, specter, corpse
(space) cosmos, time
(psyche) illusion, love, madness
For more information and lore about aspects and the traits, powers and tendencies associated with each of them, check out the table of aspects. While each aspect is associated with habitual traits, you may decide not to follow the habitual traits of your chosen aspect at all if you wish!
Colors
Every existing color is acceptable (regardless of aspect), including metallic colors (gold, silver...).
The only rules are the following:
The jewel must have the same color as the iris of the eye.
The socle must have colors that also exist on other parts of the body. The socle has one color "framing" it that makes it stand out from the fur of the forehead surrounding it. It has between 2 and 4 different colors, flat colors only (no gradients).
Eye colors:
if pupil is present, it has 3 colors: iris, inner iris, and pupil. The sclera is never visible or the same color as the iris.
if there is no visible pupil ("void pupil" trait), the eye is only one color.
Every design must be symmetrical (no difference between the left side and the right side of the Odenis), except when the "Asymmetrical" trait is applied.

Optional traits: regular
Regular traits are optional traits that any Odenis can have. The maximum number of optional traits depends on the rarity of the design:
A "Normal" rarity design has 0 to 3 optional regular traits.
Higher rarity designs have a maximum of 6 optional regular traits.
"Stackable" traits are traits that can be picked several times for the same design, as long as they are in different locations. Each iteration adds 1 to the number of optional regular traits you choose.
Note that traits that are located on the same spot may not be compatible (for example, horns and antennae are incompatible if both are located between the ears).

Tail tip spikes: location (underside, top), number, length, thickness, direction, curvature, angle. Stackable: no. Tail tip spikes are only available for specific tail tip fur types: upper tip (underside spikes) and flowing (top spikes).
Optional traits: special
Special traits are only available for "Rare" and "Extraordinary" designs.
Rare designs can only have 2 special traits at most, in addition to their regular traits.
Aspect
Secondary aspect. The Odenis is associated to one main aspect (primary) and another aspect of the same affinity to a lesser extent (secondary). It may be able to use some of the powers related to the secondary aspect, although that means less mastery over its primary aspect, as well.
- For example: main aspect "Flame" and secondary aspect "Ash" is acceptable because they are both in the same affinity ("Blaze"). However, main aspect "Spark" and secondary aspect "Ice" is not possible, since they are in two different affinities.
Colors
Asymmetry. There is a clear difference between the left side and the right side of the design. This may affect a bunch of feathers up to an entire area of the body or more.
Palette switch (ALT). The Odenis may change its colors when certain circumstances are met (seasonal, emotional, or using secondary aspect powers...). Note that the patterns remain the same, only the colors change (simple gradients may change as well).
Optional traits: abnormal
These exceptional traits break the species standards and only exist in "Extraordinary" designs.
Aspect
Twin affinities. Whereas the "Secondary aspect" trait implies a lesser aspect of the same affinity as the primary aspect, "Twin affinities" means that the Odenis has full control on two aspects of the same or two completely different affinities. It may use both aspects at the same time, or switch from one to the other. "Twin affinities" is incompatible with "Secondary aspect".
Colors
Pattern switch (ALT). Only available for designs with the "Twin affinities" trait. The design's alt form has completely different color patterns, and the palette may or may not be different.
Unclassified
Undead. The Odenis is an undead spirit with a skull replacing its head. They are exclusively tied to one or more aspects of the "death" affinity.
